I cannot even explain how excited I was to see these two pieces go down the runway at Charlotte Ronson. So ’90s, so sporty, and I can’t get enough of the transparent plastic trend. The sporty aesthetic is a hot one for spring 2013—it was prevalent at several shows. This particular varsity-style jacket came in blue, pink, green, and black. The black was so amazing, but I missed my shot gawking.
At the opening ceremony party at the Ace Hotel during Fashions Night Out (which was before the Charlotte Ronson show), I picked up a transparent plastic clutch by a Korean brand called 202 Factory. Like the see-through plastic jackets above, it came in several neon colors. I thought the clear was a good neutral because I could wear it with everything.
Below is my full outfit, including the clutch and my faux leather skirt mentioned in my fall trends piece. That’s right—leather is not going away just because it’s spring. It is just getting shorter and more feminine. We are still seeing lots of leather and faux leather accents, with major designers such as Stella McCartney producing collections that feature animal-friendly plastic faux leather.
I am wearing a plastic spandex harness, but on the runways at BCBG MAXAZRIA they had several different cuts of leather harnesses perfectly layered over dresses and blouses. PARKCHOONMOO got into the harness trend as well, with smaller harnesses and also functional harness-style straps on their dresses. It is definitely something you will want to get into this spring, and plastic faux leather makes this trend affordable.
The sheer fabric trend is still very popular and does not show any signs of disappearing any time soon. All over the runways I saw everything from sheer dresses, to skirts, to blouses—and light, airy polyester plastic chiffon is a beautiful and affordable way to get this look. This look from PARKCHOONMOO fuses the sheer, leather, and harness trends together effortlessly.
