Thanks to all the designers who entered the Plastics Make it Possible^SM Design Competition, and to those of you who submitted the 15,000+ reviews that helped us choose our winner! More than 160 designers from all over the country submitted their creations, which were posted online and open for review from the fashion community and general public. While WesFeld, the Plastics Make it Possible^SM winners work to finish their line, here is a selection of looks from the submitted designs:

The Plastics Make it Possible^SM design competition began on October 29th and the deadline for submissions was Friday, December 11th.

Plastics Make it Possible and Gen Art kicked off “Fresh Faces in Fashion” and a nationwide design contest this past October at LA Rock Fashion Week. Watch the video below to see highlights of the event and learn more about the contest.

Kaley Cuoco Hosts the Fresh Faces in Fashion Show at LA Fashion Week from Plastics Make it Possible on Vimeo.

Whether they came to scope out fresh faces in fashion, get a picture with host Kaley Cuoco from the Big Bang Theory or sample the “Polymer Punch” specialty cocktails – everyone who joined Plastics Makes it Possble at Gen Art’s “Fresh Faces in Fashion” event on October 29, 2009 learned a lot and left wanting more.

Fashion blogger and P.M.I.P. guest Laurie Brucker wrote of the event, “The bubbly and very charming Kaley Cuoco, from the CBS Sitcom The Big Bang Theory hosted the evening. And as we awaited the show, she educated us in the relationship between plastics and fashion. What most people don’t realize is that plastics are everywhere, especially in our closets. From buttons, to zippers, to spandex, to the ever popular sequin and even to the soles of our shoes, plastics are a major part of our fashion industry.” Read the rest of her post here.

For those of you who can’t get enough of plastics in fashion, Plastic Makes it Possible host Kaley Cuoco announced a nationwide fashion design competition challenging new and established designers to create two dynamic womenswear looks made from fabrics that include plastic-based fibers such as chiffon, rayon, nylon and more.

As Brucker writes, “Plastics make it Possible is taking a stand and working hard to come up with more creative ideas to maintain the relationship of plastics in fashion. Their goal is to help create stylish, creative and useful innovations for our fashionable futures. All this in mind Plastics Make it Possible is launching a nation wide design competition. Designers are challenged to create two womenswear looks made solely out of plastic, recycled plastic and/or plastic-based materials. Each will submit their work to the Genart website and we can all go and vote for our favorite designs! Don’t worry, I promise to follow up on this so you too can see plastic design innovation of the future!”

The submitted looks will be posted to Gen Art’s online community where designers can create their own profile page and upload their designs as well as network with others in the designer community.

The winner of the contest will receive a $10,000 prize and a runway show at Gen Art’s Fresh Faces event at Winter 2010 New York Fashion Week. All interested designers can submit their creations on www.discover.genart.org. All entries must be submitted by December 1 and public voting runs through December 15. The winner will be notified on December 21. Can’t wait to see you there!
