Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2010 Aspen Challenge by submitting great ideas for using plastics to help make your cooking and entertaining possible! From the preparation of favorite recipes to the storage of fresh veggies to transporting leftovers, it’s clear from your comments that plastics play a huge role in food preparation, serving, storing and entertaining.
Congratulations to our randomly selected winner, Pam Urig, who will receive two passes to the 2010 FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen and $500 toward travel expenses. We’re looking forward to seeing you in Aspen!
Here’s how Pam Urig uses plastics to create their favorite foods and memorable parties:
“I always cook more than we can eat, so I use plastic storage containers all of the time.”
Many of you also told us that plastic zipper bags, airtight storage containers and salad spinners make it easy for your families to eat fresh vegetables all week long. By chopping and rinsing vegetables on Sunday night, fresh meals are always at the ready, making it easier to eat healthy.
We also heard that plastics are a critical part of your baking projects. Silicone baking sheets are a favorite as they help prevent the edges of family-recipe cookies from burning and reduce waste by providing an alternative to parchment paper. Once out of the oven, many of you use silicone basting brushes and spatulas to frost cakes and cupcakes and airtight plastic containers to bring the goodies to friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Plastics also are a must when it comes to outdoor entertaining. You told us that plastic wine and champagne goblets add a touch of class to your soirees while avoiding glass breakage. We also heard that your outdoor barbeques often include colorful, coordinated plastic bowls and dishes for chips, dips and salad.
